A European Lung Health Study was published in the peer reviewed, American Thoracic Society’s American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine on February 16, 2018. This study is gathering great consideration worldwide.
6,230 women and men were evaluated in this ground-breaking, 20-year study which measured the long-term impact of using home cleaning products containing ammonia, chlorine bleach, and quaternary ammonium compounds. The study focused on lung health and breathing capacity.
In women, the study showed that accelerated lung function decline was comparable to the effects of smoking a pack of cigarettes every day for 20 years! The study came to the conclusion that long-term respiratory health is significantly impaired after using cleaning products containing these chemicals.
Why Be Concerned?
When we bring toxic chemicals into our homes, we put our families at risk.
The CDC says:
“We all face a variety of risks to our health as we go about our day-to-day lives. … Some are risks we might decide to avoid if we had the opportunity to make informed choices. Indoor air pollution and exposure to hazardous substances in the home are risks we can do something about.”
What can you do?
Make the decision to NOT bring toxic chemicals into your home.
Choose products that do not use ammonia, chlorine bleach, or quaternary ammonium compounds.
Look for safe, environmentally responsible ingredients that gently clean and disinfect.
There are cleaning products, you can use to get safer, worry-free cleaning. We recommend cleaning products that are so safe, they don’t require a childproof cap; in which toxic chemicals are not used, and which do not produce harmful fumes.
