BENEFITS OF KEFIR

Kefir has been increasing in exposure and popularity as a healthful, probiotic drink. I have been drinking  it for some time and a few months ago, began making my own.  I am very pleased with what I feel it has done to improve my health.  I feel it has:
Helped my digestive system;
Healthline.com says that kefir contains many microorganisms.  I agree.

“Known as probiotics, these microorganisms may influence health in numerous ways, aiding digestion, weight management and mental health (4Trusted Source, 5, 6).”

Provided my body with needed protein;
According to Healthline.com, a six-ounce serving of kefir provides:

“A 6-ounce (175-ml) serving of low-fat kefir contains (2Trusted Source):
Protein: 4 grams
Calcium: 10% of the RDI
Phosphorus: 15% of the RDI
Vitamin B12: 12% of the RDI
Riboflavin (B2): 10% of the RDI
Magnesium: 3% of the RDI
A decent amount of vitamin D”

Improved my elimination;
Being in health situation where I was unable to take my fiber products, the kefir helped my regularity considerably.   I found this to be the case with me:

“Kefir, a traditional fermented milk, has been shown to help relieve constipation in a small number of previous studies, reducing the need for laxative drugs and/ or glycerol enemas. The benefit of kefir is thought to be due to its probiotic effects.”

Provided me with probiotics (I prefer food over supplements when possible);

“Kefir gets its superstar status from its probiotics, which can be worth adding to your diet if you struggle with bloating or irregular bowel movements, says Dawn Jackson-Blatner, RDN, a Chicago-based dietitian and the author of The Superfood Swap. It’s thought that probiotics boost your digestive health and bolster your immunity by colonizing your gut with beneficial microorganisms that help drive off other harmful bacteria, according to the National Institutes of Health.
