You may have a ‘work from the luxury of your own home’ business, and you may have discovered that leadership is part of your work.  You may have only started your business to be home with your children.  If you’re thinking, “This is not what I signed up for!”, consider that leadership in some form is part of most businesses, organizations, corporations, home-based businesses, associations, meetings and even families.

Don’t let all the chatter these days about leadership stress you out. Be yourself, be open, be kind and continue to learn.  There are many definitions of leadership, but one that I especially like for the purposes of this article is this:

Mirriam Webster

: the act or an instance of leading
  • leadership molds individuals into a team
  • —Harold Koontz & Cyril O’Donnell
I also liked one definition that said that a good leader,  “Creates an inspiring vision of the future.”  You are probably already doing these things in some way in your day to day activities.
Leadership on Pocket Watch Face.
Do you have a home business where there is a need to stay in touch with your customers to educate them on the products they are using?
Do you teach people in your organization how to give presentations?
Do you have kids that each have different needs, but also need to be taught to work within the family arrangement?
See, you’re already doing it.   Here are three tips to help you continue to lead, teach and inspire:
1.  Accept feedback.  Everybody is different in their likes, dislikes, learning styles, ability to communicate clearly,  etc.  Ask  for feedback from your team, customers, family.  Then, when they offer it, accept it with a smile and where you can, genuinely put it to use.  This can inspire confidence in them that they are valued and that in the future they can feel comfortable giving their feedback.
2.  Listen.  When people sense you are really listening, they know you care about them. Listen to understand, not respond.
3.  Inspire cooperation. No one is an island, and in most groups of people, there is a need for cooperation among them.  As an illustration, in the example above, you and your customers need cooperation for you to teach them the full benefit of what they are purchasing and using. You need to show, talk and educate; they need to listen and be attentive to learn, and then do what they learn, to appreciate the full value of the product.
These are just a few aspects of leadership. There are many more.  I would love to show you more about leadership and the company I work with.

Too Many Sugary Drinks Are Not Good For Us

Too Many Sugary Drinks Are Not Good For Us

According to an article in qz.com, new data presented last week at the American Society for Nutrition’s annual meeting, showed that American infants are consuming excessive amounts of added sugar. We know that processed sugar is bad for kids. Yet, the article says the study showed that toddlers are consuming at least some added sugar on a given day, and a broad increase in sugar intake.

One of the reasons for this could be that although we know that our children and grand-children should drink more fluids, it can be hard to get them to drink plain water. Most kids, and many adults, like a sweet taste. Sometimes it seems easier just to buy them soda or sweetened juice, thinking that they are at least getting fluids. Without really considering the dangers of sweetened drinks, we can be unknowingly causing them phyiscal harm.

If you have a hard time getting your kids to drink water and finding healthy drinks for them, here are three tips that might help:

Keep a glass jug of water in the refrigerator with fruit in it;

Buy your kids cool water bottles to carry with them and keep them full of cold water; and

Carry some no-sugar powered drink packets with you to add to water once in awhile for a lift-me-up.

I would be happy to show you what I use.

Drink Coffee

Coffee Has Health Benefits

When you choose your coffee, choose coffee with altitude. Coffee with altitude is coffee that is grown in high areas. Generally where good coffee growers choose to grow their coffee, there are definite dry and rainy seasons with steady temperatures and soil rich in minerals.

How the coffee you choose is roasted is important too. More about that in a following article.

Coffee has many health benefits, some of which are:

Naturally occurring antioxidants;

Can boost metabolism; and

Contains essential micro-nutrients.

Drink coffee. Drink coffee at home and when traveling. When traveling to other countries, make sure your coffee is hot.

Change The Channel of Unhealthy Habits

Changing unhealthful habits need not be difficult. While it is true that some extra effort, time and expense may be involved at first, the long-term benefits make it all worthwhile. Consider how eating processed foods every day, never exercising, smoking or over-drinking, not getting enough sleep, over-spending, neglecting spiritual needs or not keeping ourselves and our living conditions clean affect us. Each of these things in themselves can wreak havoc on a person, and much more so when they are combined, which is oftentimes the case.

Making some simple adjustments can help greatly in changing unhealthful habits. Changing long standing, unhealthy habits even a little, may seem impossible and leave you with the feeling that you can’t do it. You can! By working on one thing at time, you will find that changes begin to take place. Those changes may be almost unnoticeable at first, but they will affect the other areas in your life, and you will reap the benefits. Don’t give up.

If you are looking to make adjustments in one of these areas, I would be happy to see if I can help in that area. I am not a health coach. My mentoring consists of opening membership accounts and training on products and services. However, much of my mentoring overlaps into these areas.

Our digestive system is designed to work best when it is fed regularly. It still works some when we are not eating, but it works most when it is receiving and digesting (and getting rid of ;) ) food.

ColonEndCDC 6-9-18

It’s similar with a home based business model. Many home based business models are designed to work when they are worked. In other words, when you put in the work, the system works for you. Many home based businesses have certain steps to take to achieve success, and when you follow them regularly, you will succeed. If yours doesn’t, find one that does.

For our digestive system to work well, we need to put good, wholesome, nutritious food into it. When we skip meals, eat junk, then overeat when we do eat, it wreaks havoc on our digestive system. Likewise, if you give half-hearted attention to your home business arrangement, it will suffer. It will not produce what you expect from it.

Working From Home 1-30-18

The work has already been done for you. Our digestive system has already been designed. Follow the steps and you will succeed. If you are looking for a do-able ‘work from the luxury of your own home business’, I would be happy to show you what works for me.  Trust the system.

ClipartManThinking 6-8-18

We all have the ability to think in various capacities. With that ability comes the responsibility to take in knowledge, analyze it, draw conclusions, remember it, use it again to make decisions, etc. There are things we can do protect our thinking ability. Here are three ways:

  1. Be careful what knowledge you take in. Not all knowledge is accurate, so it is possible to analyze and mediate upon inaccurate knowledge. Do your research and only spend your valuable thinking ability on accurate, correct and good things.

  2. Keep your thinking ability active. Keep learning, no matter how old you are.

  3. Be willing to accept new ideas and adjust your thinking when necessary.

YouGotThis 3-18-16_9-21-17

It is also possible for our thinking ability to be affected by stress, lack of sleep, mental and emotional distress, health and many other things. For instance, those of us with fibromyalgia may find ourselves coping with brain fog which affects our ability to think clearly. For that reason, it is also important to take good care of our health. Three ways to protect our thinking ability in this way are:

  1. Get enough sleep. Most people need between 8 and 10 hours of sleep each night to be able to think clearly and wisely.

  2. Control your stress levels. Excess and continued stress is dangerous and can interfere with your ability to think with a clear mind.

  3. Eat healthy. Get the necessary nutrients your body and brain need to function at the best level they can. Take good nutritional supplements and eat balanced, nutritious meals. Take your time choosing and eating delicious and healthy food.

PositiveThoughts 6-8-18

These are just a few examples of what you can do to protect your thinking ability. When you are looking for healthy, effective and unique nutritional supplements to help with that balance, I would be happy to show you about the ones my family and I use.

No 6-7-18

Sometimes we have to say “No” just to survive.  Why do I say that? I say that because there   are many situations in life where saying no to a request or appeal is crucial to the survival of our marriage, business, friendship, spiritual health, and many other important things.  How so?

  •   Marriage

Take for example, the young couple whose in-laws on both sides continue to interfere with the new marriage.  They don’t mean to be intrusive, but nevertheless, that is what happens.  Neither the young husband or wife know how to say no to their respective parents, and they argue with each over the others’ parents.  What is in jeopardy?  Their marriage.

What can they do?

They can sit down with each other at a time when both of them are calm and discuss the situation in a loving and reasonable way, trying to find helpful solutions where they can involve both sets of parents in their lives, within limitations.  Then they can discuss these things with their parents, setting the boundaries, and lovingly saying “No”, when those boundaries are threatened to be crossed.

  • Business

When we work with a team, we need to be in constant communication with them about their progress, activities and achievements.  That takes time and individual team members may need more attention than others.  This may cause us to take more time with one than another, or take precious time from income producing activities.  Team communication and income producing activities are both essential to the survival of your business.

What can we do?

We may need to say “No” to spending excessive time with individual team members at certain times, and schedule a one-on-one with them at a time when it does not interfere with our other important activities.  Keep the appointment, set a time limit, but strive to help that person with their needs.

This is just two examples, but it gives an idea of some of the areas in our lives where we may need to learn to say “No” more.

Running a business from the luxury of our own homes can be stressful when boundaries are not made and kept, but for many of us, it’s worth the effort and self-discipline. Saying “No” at certain times is part of that, and a continuous learning process. I would be happy to show you how to get started in your own business from the luxury of your home.

Earth Day 2018

Weekend before last was Earth Day 2018, a celebration of our beautiful planet and it’s amazing resources. This year’s theme was all about ending plastic pollution and the impact of the choices we make every day.  When deciding where to shop, choose companies that produces less waste, uses less energy and helps keep the air and water cleaner.

According to the Earth Day Network, plastic pollution is one of the most important environmental problems we face today.  We produce nearly 30 billion tons of plastic each year which never fully degrades in the environment, and means every item of plastic you have ever used still exists.

The company I am partnered with has saved 22 million pounds of plastic, 42 million gallons of gasoline and 48 million pounds of greenhouse gas since 1985.  It feels good to know I am doing my part to help keep the earth a cleaner place. You can do your part too.  Choose where you shop carefully.

What else you can do:

  • Recycle your plastics
  • Buy concentrated products
  • Reuse containers

Check out these lists of environmentally friendly companies.

From RHL’s March 2017 posts … enjoy!

There are many things to be fearful of, yet it’s not until we face and conquer our fears that things begin to happen. Talk to yourself like you’re your best friend and say, “This is what I’m afraid of. How can I change that?” Then do it. You can change what you want to, and many aspects of health and wellness – financial, physical, mental and emotional, and natural and spiritual. mlr

  • 3/16/17

In the middle of the word “believe” is the word “lie”. Negative self-talk can make us believe a lie, for example, “I can’t change!”, “I can’t do it!”, “This doesn’t work!”. You can do it and it does work. You can improve your health, change the habit, improve your financial situation – whatever it is … just don’t give up, give it time, and keep moving forward. Don’t believe the lie. Believe you can.

Do you ever feel like you don’t have any influence? If so, remember that the concept of being an influential person does not require materialistic influence, it requires passion. People convince themselves they need to have something before they are influential. Not true. — From the Monday morning business training I attend. These tips came from Robert B. Cialdini, Ph.D.’s book, ‘Influence, The Psychology of Persuasion’.

There is an ancient saying, “Let your ‘yes’ mean ‘yes’, and your ‘no’, ‘no’. When we stick to that, we save ourselves and others a lot of misery

When we say what we mean and mean what we say, it makes us very credible and trustworthy, in our businesses dealings and other areas of life. Be strong today. People will notice and you will encourage others to do the same.
